Alleged Baby Formula Burglars Indicted on Theft Charges

A Staten Island couple allegedly stole baby formula from a Target in mid-January.

 

Melvin Logan, 24, and Adreala Ames, 43, of Staten Island were indicted by the Monmouth County Grand Jury for allegedly stealing baby formula from Target in Manalapan on Jan. 15.

According to the indictment issued by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Logan and Ames conspired to commit the crime; Ames knowingly loaded a shopping cart with baby formula totaling $1,437.06 and left the store and Logan took the shopping cart and attepted to exit the store without paying for the merchandise, the indictment said.

It was also alleged that Logan inflicted bodily injury on an individual, who, according to the initial police report, was a Target Loss Prevention Officer. The man who was assaulted during the incident was sent to CentraState Medical Center for contusions, a broken finger, and a sprained arm.

Logan and Ames were indicted on two counts of conspiracy and shoplifting, which are both third degree crimes. Logan was also indicted on one count of robbery, which is a second degree crime.
