A billboard previously denied by the Marlboro Planning Board is now standing at Route 79 and Ryan Road, after a successful lawsuit by the applicant.
The billboard stands on the property of astorage facility owned by Jason Beuge of Farmingdale and his brother.
Planning Board Vice Chairman Gerald Bergh and other board members raised concerns of traffic safety at Ryan Rd., which is proposed to be widened to accommodate turning traffic.
However, Bergh reminded members at the March meeting that the Planning Board cannot deny based on traffic conditions if an application that has met township conditions. A denial due to traffic safety or environmental concerns lies within the jurisdiction of the NJ Department of Transportation and the NJ Department of Environmental Protection.
The application originally came before the board in 2011, and was denied in March in a 4 to 1 vote.
A representative of Jersey Outdoor Media said the board has no grounds to deny an application based on traffic concerns, especially when safety studies have not been conducted in the area.
"To deny this application based on a subjective opinion...will result in the township incurring legal fees," he said at the March meeting when the application was denied.

What's with all the billboards going up in Marlboro? There's 2 new ones on Route 9 too. One by CVS and another by the Grasso building? And the one by Costco a few years ago? Speaking of traffic, some should look at the clusterF@#$ that Rt 9 and Texas Rd has become with the all development at that intersection. Lord knows whats going to happen when Whole Foods open at Rt 520, that one's pretty bad too

It's all about the money, nothing more. Businesses pay taxes, yet I doubt we will see a reduction in our rates any time soon. The council continually tells us all these businesses will help the tax base, but in reality they just add to what we all still pay. There is no thought to the traffic concerns. The council also touts job creation, but most of these jobs are part-time at a rate no one can really afford to live on in town, let alone the state, unless you are a child being supported by your parents and these jobs are for pocket money.

Actually I think the border runs through there or very nearby from what I remember from my days on Morganville FAS. I believe the old Exxon and IDA automotive is marlboro. That being said, since its RT 9, its really the State's problem. But Marlboro deserves some blame for allowing Costo and CVS to impact the intersection.

Everyone by Route 79 should stop complaining. Thanks to both the Democrats and Republicans, residents who live along Route 9 now have 5 billboards with 2 on the way, an ugly cell tower, fortune tellers, a short stay rate motel, a commuter lot which is now a bus depot, and non stop noise and congestion. The hell with ratables, the Township is becoming a cesspool.

Better yet Tom, Why don't we work together to prevent the Township from becoming a cesspool? I've invested 30 years here; I don't have to be the one to move which seems to be the patented answer found in this forum.
The unwritten rule in this town is that crap such as billboards, cell towers, low income housing etc is not to be built near elected officials or near the mcmansions. No doubt Tom you live in one of these prized sectors. Don't worry, Larocca and his council of Republicrats have ensured that this is the last billboard on Route 79; future eyesores will continue to be placed along route 9.

If it is true that Kleinberg approved Costco and CVS, then why did Mayor Hornik take credit for it when he ran for his second term? Please clarify as I voted for Mayor Hornik, one reason being because I though he was the one to credit for increased business coming into Marlboro such as these 2 mentioned. Thanks.

Read it carefully. I did not say republicans but rather Republicrats who are our party jumpers who will consistently change their party affiliation in order to cling to the power they hold. If Hornik ever committed a wrongdoing, they would jump back to the republicans in a heartbeat. Not a healthy situation for this town

I wonder how many of the new approved billboards will have the upcoming democrat candidate pictures all over them like they did in the last election. If you notice, many of these new billboards are much larger than the previously existing ones. Looks like hornit and larocka invested in the upcoming campaign with expeditious approvals. It will also be interesting to see if mazzola uses an updated picture instead of the one from high school.
