UPDATE: Recreation Center No Longer Needs Hot Meals, Accepting Donations for Shore Towns

Residents can sign up to bring baked goods to the Rec Center by calling (732)-617-0100.

Update: The Recreation Shelter no longer needs hot meals or basic supplies, they have contracted that out. However, residents can sign up to drop-off baked goods at (732)-617-0100.

Please do not drop-off without calling.

The Rec Center is also accepting non-perishable donations for affected shore towns.

Although the Greenbriar Senior Development received power late Sunday night, many senior communities are still waiting for heat.

Mayor Jon Hornik said he is told JCP&L is currently working on Marlboro Greens, which is powered by the Texas Road substation, and the Wickatunk Village.

With senior developments still struggling, the Marlboro Recreation Center is taking in those in desperate need. On Saturday night, an impromptu shelter was created with around 35 beds and a round-the-clock staff.

Hornik said the shelter will remain open as long as there is a need.

If you are looking for shelter, please call 732-536-0100.

The shelter has been open since Saturday, and warming/comfort stations have been open since just after the storm.

Marlboro was not certified and did not have the resources to open a shelter then, just as many other towns in our area are in the same situation.

What does it take to get certified? How long does it take?

Journalist---just trying to keep everyone's facts straight in a a time that a mess of information can get everyone confused! What it takes to get certified is a great question--I'll look into it!
