The Marlboro Republican Party was saddened but not surprised to learn that Carol Mazzola has chosen to switch parties to run for re-election. It had become increasingly obvious that Carol had turned her back on her supporters and supported an administration which has given Marlboro residents skyrocketing property taxes and irresponsible spending.
If Carol supports an administration which has increased Marlboro’s debt to an all time high, pays legal fees in excess of $1 million per year (more than double what large towns like Middletown are paying), and has essentially looted our water authority by spending its surplus and loading it with $8 million in debt, then she does not represent the values of Republicans in Marlboro or anywhere.
The Marlboro Republican Party intends to field a competitive slate of council candidates this November who share Governor Christie’s fiscally conservative, reform agenda.
We will spend the next 10 months pointing out in detail the destructive policies and decisions the Hornik administration has pursued (and Carol Mazzola has agreed with). The choice will be stark and we believe Marlboro voters are ready to elect representatives who answer to the taxpayer, not political bosses, and who do what’s best for our town, not for themselves.

Bravo, well said. I have lived in Marlboro many years, and even as an Independent I feel that the prior council, including Joe Pernice, Steve Rosenthal, etc did a better job for the people by keeping spending under better control, and along with the prior mayor, Robert Klienberg, actually left office with a surplus in place. I believe this current administration spends way too much in such tough financial times. I will be following this election closely, and look forward to hearing more from the newly proposed slate. I think its time for a change in Marlboro!

This release is lunacy at its best. More interesting are the self serving posts of "Marlboro Conservative". Gee, are you conservative or independent? Anyway, did you miss the town wide endorsement from Rosenthal last year supporting the current administration? Perhaps you should get Pernice's take on things too - you may be surprised at his opinions.

Just as an example of how uninformed Chris Dean and his republican cronies are, Marlboro's "debt" is not at an all time high. Rather, in 2012, Marlboro's debt was lower than 2002 and lower, by far, than at any point over the past nine years. Dean goes by the old motto that if you write it down then it must be true. This is the exact reason why good people like Jeff Cantor and Carol Mazzola have abandoned the Marlboro Republicans in favor of INFORMED good government.

Ms. Mazzola is just one of many dissatisfied residents that have left the Republican party in Marlboro. There just a bunch of whiney bickering individuals, looking out for themselves in attempting to get government jobs. Look at the co-chair, she is working at a big job with the Motor Vehicle Commission; the treasurer, he too is working at DMC. Then there is the Democrat who converted to be a Republican (former) councilwoman now working for Freeholder Curley.
The place is a stinkin patronage mill launching pad for government jobs.
Mr. Dean needs to resign, to get new ideas and blood into the organization!!!

Come to think of it..he got a nice entry level clerk's job with nice taxpayer finded benefits at the DMV too, That's good business, hire a guy in his 60's for an entry level job. That happens in private firms all the time.

Jeff Canto and Carol Mazzola's records speak for themselves. This same publication printed earlier this week that Marlboro's taxes rose both in 2011 and 2012. This administration is still reluctant to make tough decisions. They have paid out almost $1m in sick and unused vacation time with $2.9M banked by employees yet the administration is on the record saying that while they recognize its entitlement they don't want to take it away immediately. The professional fees (legal, engineering etc.,) paid in Marlboro are more than twice that of our surrounding towns.
It is wonderful to say that you furlough employees on fridays but there is not a reciprocal savings for the town as their salaries and benefits were not cut 20% despite the reduction in service. The State of New Jersey does not pay health benefits to part-time employees. Why doesn't this administration mirror that of the Board of Freeholders in precluding the members of the town council or Mayor from receiving health benefits.
As to debt, the town took a solvent water authority with Millions in surplus costing it over $1million to do so then exhausted that surplus and now says they have to borrow money for infrastructure repairs. That's like mortgaging the house you live in to buy another house then taking the equity from your second house spending all the equity and then having to go back and borrow on the first and second house just to pay maintenance on the second house.

Are you leaving the legal costs alone, as you realized a substantial amount of legal costs is due to your habitual filing of bogus Ethics Complaints? Just in case anyone is wondering what I'm talking about, there was the debacle against Mr. Schlaflin. That's a good one as you dropped out of sight on that one for a failing pursuit for a Council Seat. Next you filed a complaint again Councilwoman Marder, which was also dismissed without merit only after you personally exhausted the Ethics Board Legal Budget.
By the way, I'm only asking as you left out reference to legal costs as a separate category.

Continued:
When the first order of business from Frank Larooca when elected was to name a street after his running mates father, he is the last person to talk about cronyism. Your cronies what to focus on people who work for the state, but Frank lets talk about your cronies who were hired by the town during a hiring freeze, such as an ex-running mate who is now aide to the mayor and ex-zoning officer appointed by you who is now a township employee.

It was perhaps for the best that Ms. Mazzola switched parties. In fact she should have resigned. Ms. Mazzola has since her election offered no substantive contribution to the people who elected her or to the republican party. I do believe she was elected to hold in check, honest government, wasteful spending, cronyism, and fiscal responsibility for which the Dems have failed miserably. I truly believe MS. Mazzola may have had the best interest of the Marlboro community at hand when first elected. But to rubber stamp the mayor's every misstep is not what I voted for. Higher taxes was not on the table when I voted for you. When you initially sat on that council, please remember how these new so-called friends of your treated you. The things they said about you are still on the blogs if you need to get a memory check. As the lone republican on the council, we hoped that you would provide that voice of reason and balance. Like those before you you have decided to sell your soul. again, if you felt the position trying, you should have resigned. It is not too late.

Much of this reads like Hornik’s pit-bulls on parade. LaRocca, Pollack, and of course Schaflin (who is ever so quick with the blog slander whether or not he knows you!!) Take this from one who taken some of his unkind words.
I’ve always believed that political party affiliation is about one’s beliefs, values and views on social issues, financial responsibly, and the size of government. Some of us align with Democrat views, some with Republican viewpoints and most in our town see themselves agreeing with some viewpoints of each party thus they claim to be Independents.
I think it’s only a natural inclination once elected to like the prestige, and the perks acquired from the role, but a smart politician is one who can manage to remain true to their values and those who elected them. Sadly most fall prey to their egos. History shows in Marlboro switching parties is a common self-interest activity. Included in those mentioned in previous blogs former mayor Saul Hornik, Jon Hormik’s father was elected as a Republican, and then later flipped over to Democrat. Personally I question all these party flip-floppers true reasons, particularly the ability to trust them.

In addition-->The reality is we have no balance of power; we have a lawyer group and their friends running Marlboro. This explains our incredible legal fees (that’s a fact just check the budget online). Chris Dean’s description of the town’s financial dealings is 100% accurate, the community has seen a sharp rise in REC activities, parking fees and so much more.
It seems to me for some reason this crew gets uneasy and they take their upset to the blog lines every time the GOP town leader makes a written statement. Rather than counter with facts they reduce themselves to finding history suitable to their needs or outright name calling.
These are the people who are managing our town and all I say is I hope for a brighter future through the up-coming 2013 election process.

Mr. Dean
Chronies? Hoiw about your wife, Victoria Dean (schooll board member) being appointed by Freeholder Curly, along with the matriarch of the Marlboro republicans, Ms Gore, to a county board. How about Mr. Marshall also being appointed to the county Planning Board? How about Ms. Gore being appointed to a high level state job with a car and driver (driving Miss Celica) and she then hiring the ex president of the planning board, Mario Guidice, who approved all the Spallero developements in the town? Didn't a high level Republican elected official, go to prison over that?
BTW. Ms. Mazzola is correct, you don't know how government works. Imprvements to infrastructure of the Water Authority ar CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS and are bonded over time. Doing so saves the taxpayer money in the end and ensures proper capitalisation.
Your statement that she offered no substantive contribution to the republicans is absurd. She has contributed to ALL THE PEOPLE of Marlboro. Was she your personal representative on the Council or were you not able to puul her strings and be the puppet master you dream of.
I realize you do not understand these issues but the discussion of sick and vacation time is one you should take up with the Governor. It is guided by legislative action and executive approval. Sick leave is capped at $15,000, like every other public employee in the entire state.

Yoiur characterization of the township, it's employees, it's fiscal practices are taken out of context, are deceptive, and not based in fact or reality.
AS we go forward in this election cycle, your true motives will become clear. You will be standing alone, out in the cold. DId you not learn that you and your team's positions were overwhelmingly rejected?
It will be interesting to watch as you and your kitchen table cabinet select a slate to run.
Ask yourselves this question.
Why can't you get qualified responsible candidates to cuddle up to you and how many are left in the Republican Club?

Oh Mr. Dean, its so hard to respond to you as you beat your uninformed drum. Mayor Saul Hornik had an honorary sign (paid for by me personally) hung at the rec center (you know, the building he made sure was erected in Marlboro). The mayor's aide costs less than any mayor's aide has in the past, and no offense to Peggy, but is probably the best one we ever had. The zoning person escapes me. Paid sick leave? Really? Should township employees not have any sick days? Are you speaking of the budget item for banked days? If so, perhaps you should understand how that has accrued and why and how many towns throughout the state are attempting to address it. Your take on the water company is so incoherent I can't even understand your point. This fact remains, the old MTMUA had to hold cash in order to secure improvement bonds. When the authority was dissolved (saving hundreds of thousands in duplicative costs per year) the township assets secured the bonds freeing up cash to offset water rates and other township expenses. This helped stabilized the local economy for the residents. I'm sorry if this doesn't jive with your TEA PARTY priniciples - but it is what was and remains best for Marlboro.

I know that this is kind of late in the cycle but I just had to make a comment on your absurd statement on paid sick days. The township employees much like any employee in a private sector should not receive a sick day entitlement. If an employee gets sick he or she needs to call in and inform their immediate manager. Anything absence over two consecutive days should require a doctors validation for the absence. Longer absence should be treated as short term disabilities, etc. There should be no clear entitlement or even worse a bankable entitlement for sick days. If it works in the private sector then it should work in public sector as well. Maybe if the state democrats stop pandering to the core supporters the labor unions we would have a real change in this state and Marlboro!

Mr. Dean & Ms. Longobardi:
It's unfortunate that your first reaction to Carol leaving the Marlboro Republicans is to cast stones towards carol and the Dems. I have worked with Carol on council now for 4 years. In that time she has shown herself to be truthful, passionate, and cares about the residents of Marlboro.
The question you should be asking yourself is why do people keep leaving the Marlboro Republican Party? It is because it is a caustic, narcissistic group that does not put Marlboro's resident's first. That is the reason why I left and that is the reason why Carol left the group. I know a lot of great republican people throughout the County and beyond. Unfortunately, there is a dearth of them here in Marlboro, more specifically, in your club.
I understand the anguish that Carol had when she finally came to terms with switching parties. It has nothing to do with caring about herself or focusing on the re-election and has everything to do with continuing good government. If you opened your eyes, you would see that we have a fantastic local government that is all about inclusion and transparency. We all work together to move Marlboro forward. It took a lot of guts for Carol to make that decision, and I applaud her for doing so. You need to look inwardly to uncover what the real problem is. As a municipal chair, you have the ability to make changes that can improve the republican party. Rather than throw stones and Carol and me, try to fix the problems first.

Sara, my wife was elected to the school board position and appointed to a county VOLUNTEER position, both positions are without pay and without health and other benefits., the same goes for Ms. Gore and Mr. Marshall. Frank so your aid costs less than any other aid before it still doesn't take away from the fact she was a cronie given a paid position at the township during a hiring freeze. As to you Paul I am owner of my own companies and I not only provide my own benefits but benefits to my employees, and I do not plan on ever taking a job with the DMV. Since Sara brought up the Freeholders, who do NOT get benefits like our town counsel and mayor receive, why don't you and the others follow their example and pay for your own benefits?. I understand Scott Metzger is the only one who pays for his own benefits and I admire him for that. Frank I'm sure you can afford your own benefits being a lawyer and all. Also I find it funny that your friend Paul questions what we might be receiving but doesn't question you or the other counsel members. Sara instead of just saying my wife and the others volunteer and get nothing in return you choose to bash them. To correct you Sara I never said Carol Mazzola offered no substantive contribution to the republicans another poster named Rick did, I posted under my own name remember. BTW Sara your must be confusing me with your boss maybe, because I don't cuddle up with anyone but my spouse.

Mr. Dean
Once again you demonstrate your lack of understanding about municipal government operations.
You have made statements about Council members receiving benefits in the past and you were WRONG. You are now making the same claims and you are once again WRONG.
Do you see a pattern here?
Did you even take the time to check out your facts or are you just taking the word of your cronies Knight and Materise.
As was pointed out by Councilman Cantor, you should look to yourself as to why so many people have run, not walked away from the divisive petty political agenda that you and Ms. Gore have laid out.
During the last election you and your Dean Team slate were roundly rejected. Nothing has changed.
Your narrow Tea Party views were rejected then and now.
