One Dead in Route 34 Head-On Collision in Marlboro, at Holmdel Border
Another patient is in critical condition at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
Police have confirmed that a head-on collision on Route 34 resulted in one fatality Wednesday night. The accident happened near Reids Hill Road, in Marlboro Township.
Marlboro and Holmdel Police closed the roadway going both directions in the area, and detours were set up by the Department of Transportation to divert traffic away from the scene of the crash. The road was opened at 1:45 a.m.
Marlboro Police Captain Steve Mennona said another patient was taken by helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick in critical condition.
An observer at the scene said the cars involved were a Honda Accord and a Buick LeSabre.
Responding to the scene was Marlboro Police and First Aid, Morganville Independent Fire Company Station 3, The Holmdel Police Department, Holmdel First Aid, Holmdel Fire Company #1, and Holmdel Fire and Rescue Co. #2.
The cause of the accident is under investigation. Police have not released the identities or ages of those involved in the crash.
