Quincy Mumford to Record Live Album

The homegrown band, featuring a Marlboro drummer, will play three shows in March to benefit Clean Ocean Action.

Here it is music lovers: your golden opportunity for live music, charity and 15 minutes of fame.

On March 2 and 3, Quincy Mumford and The Reason Why will be in concert at The Saint in Asbury Park to record a live album. The concert will also be a fundraiser for Clean Ocean Action.

Front man for the band, Quincy Mumford of Allenhurst, said that it was because of its fans that the band decided to produce the live album. "They would say to us, 'We love your records and listen to them all the time, but your live shows are so much more amusing.'"

That's because, he said, the band likes to entertain and tries to weave different moods into the show and pepper it with personal vignettes.

"We want you to dance your ass off one song and then be listening to what another song is about and relating it to your personal life," he said. "We want to make sure you aren't bored for one single minute."

The Reason Why's latest album, Speak, made the top 90 albums of the year on 90.5 The Night's year end countdown, coming in number 10, beating out the likes of The Red Hot Chili Peppers and The New York Dolls. You can listen to the jazzy, danceable track Sunshine here.

Band members include: Keybordist Karlee Bloomfield, of Ocean, who attended and Red Bank Regional High School, bassist Brian Gearty, of Oakhurst, guitarist Travis Lyon, of Manasquan and drummer Jeff Mann of Malboro.

The small venue of the upcoming shows will allow the band to pack the house for each concert and give them more than one version of the songs to choose from when it comes time to put together the live album. The band is also working on a documentary style DVD that will include footage of the concert and the band's recent trip to Vermont to prep for the upcoming gigs.

Mumford said fans who come out to this set of shows can expect to hear never before heard arrangements, surprise cover songs, a percussionist and back up singers.

"We want you to walk out of the show with your jaw on the ground," Mumford said.

Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the band's longtime sponsor, Surf Taco's locations in , Manasquan and Belmar and online. The two evening shows are 18 and over events. There will be an all ages show on March 3 at 3 pm.
