The Marlboro Board of Education is meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at Asher Holmes Elementary School for a workshop meeting.

Students from Asher Holmes will begin the meeting with a presentation about Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.

The board will also vote to approve the contract with the Marlboro Township Police Department to put at least one police officer in each school. The program will cost $105,000 and will be paid for by the board through its general fund.

A public session will be held after general business is taken care of.

Interesting how the proposal is still for an "approximate" amount. It already went up from the initially "approximate" $100,000 to $5,000 more. What is the ACTUAL cost going to be? Approximations are NOT what the board should be agreeing to. They need to understand the actual costs and what taking this away from the general fund that we all contribute to affects. Also, what do "school hours": entail? Does it cover after-school activities?

As stated in the agenda, this is something that needs much further explanation and details. Don't rush this through simply because the mayor wants his 15 minutes of fame. Make sure this is fully spelled out for the public that contributes the funds being used for this purpose.

Where and what budget item is this money coming from? Did this school district just happen to have $100,000.00 (or whatever the real and true figure is) lying around? It has to come from somewhere. Probably from a children's program---this is bullcrap!!
