UPDATE: Teen Bike Rider Struck on Union Hill Road
Medevac helicopter transported teen from the scene.
Update as of 12 p.m. on Tuesday: The male bike rider is stable and sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
A van struck a male teenager riding his bicycle along Union Hill Road in Marlboro on Monday at approximately 3:45 p.m., police confirmed.
The accident occurred between Menzel Lane and Tennent Road, according to Lt. Christopher Cherbini of the Marlboro Police Department. Union Hill Road remains closed between those two streets while an accident investigation is underway.
Emergency medical personnel and a medevac helicopter staged at Asher Holmes Elementary School. The teen was transported via helicopter to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
This is a developing storyline. Marlboro-Colts Neck Patch will have more information as it becomes available.

All the money spent on the reconstruction of that dangerous road with no sidewalks never made sense to me. especially with 2 elementary schools on it. I hope this young man is ok.

If the drivers on Union Hill Road would KEEP to the speed limit of 35, the road would become safer for our children getting on and off the school bus. Just crossing the road you take your life in your hands because of the excessive speed being driven.

totally, agree..I think the speed should be lowered to 25, then maybe people would go 35

I agree but just driving 35 mph would does matter if your on your cell phone - or putting on make up - or talking to the passenger - or tuning the radio - keep your focus on driving that 2 1/2 Ton SUV...
Also - that road was re-done in a criminally unsafe fashion - I hope the township feels personal responsibility for anyone injured on the stretch of Union Hill from the park to Tennet.

Union Hill Road does need to be widened and a sidewalk would be delightful. The project that was done for curbing and sewers was NOT thought out that carefully.

There is very little police enforcement on Union Hill Rd. At least once a week a car will blow by, or DRIVE AROUND, the stopped school bus, while the red lights are flashing and the little stop sign is out. We were very disappointed when we found out there were no sidewalks in the refurbishment plan. It's easy to see how this accident happened if you are familiar with the "blind spot" as you come around the bend on Union Hill.

I am sorry but who is to say the kid was not being stupid on the bike and swerving into the road like kids love to do now a days. I work off of Broad Street in Matawan and these kids will ride in the street even if their is a sidewalk and swerve their bikes almost coming into the cars path without a care in the world like they are invincible or a 1,000 lb car can not hurt them. They also jump into the road without even looking to see if cars are coming. Kids are not exactly helping themselves when they do these moves. It was an accident and the kid was okay just be happy with that and stop trying to always blame pedestrians. I was driving down Texas road the other day and there is a bike path in which the bikers have to stop for cars. This couple was riding stopped for one minute and even though my car was coming this idiotic girl told her husband they could go anyway even though they had to stop. Bicyclists have no respect for drivers.

Without a doubt, this has become a mojor throughway and needs to be widened. My wife and I lost our passager's mirror two months ago because someones garbage can was protruded out too far when taking a turn and having another car passing.
Yes, just widen the road. A child is now hurt. Just do it!
