Michael,
Costco paid $112,574.22 in property taxes. I don't know what Whole Foods would be paying.

Costco did not pay taxes. The owner of the plaza paid taxes on the valuation of the entire complex which includes the Ihop and other stores.

Judging by the amount of Marlboro Plaza's tax bill, it's no wonder that the entire shopping center looks run down. A far cry from the modern robust malls along Route 9 in Manalapan.

Why are Manalapans property taxes lower than Marlboro?
They seem to have a better control over their municipal and school taxes .

@kaitlyn - Thanks for the info. I really like to know what was paid while Regal was there and if Costco build out increased/decreased or kept taxes the same?

Interestingly enough I looked at the stats and average taxes in Marlboro are up over 78% between 2000 and 2010. Within the same time frame Manalapan taxes are up a little over 55%. I wonder what normalized data would like breaking out municipal vs. school taxes for both municipalities.

The school taxes in Marlboro are obscene and take up nearly 75% of the annual tax bill. Residents should be greatful that they will no longer have a say since they are now guaranteed a 2% increase per year as the Board spends up to the cap. No longer will residents have to stand in awe and validate the Marlboro NEA's scare tactics. No wonder there are so many empty homes in the Township. Who could afford to live here with our "wonderful and costly" school system? Once the kids take flight, the parents take flight right behind them. It is not a sustainable situation.
