1,000 Bottles Of Booze Seized In 'Operation Swill'

TGI Fridays in Marlboro was among those targeted by year-long investigation.

More than 1,000 bottles of booze were seized from 29 New Jersey bars, including at TGI Fridays in Marlboro Township, by more than 100 state agents Wednesday at the conclusion of a year-long investigation called “Operation Swill,’’ authorities said Thursday. The investigation alleges that the bars and restaurants — a dozen TGI Friday's among them — filled premium alcoholic beverage bottles with cheaper alcohol in an attempt to fool customers and increase profits, authorities have said. Customers paid for the premium brand, but were instead poured a non-premium substitute, the release says.  Acting on tips and consumer complaints, samples were taken in January and February when ABC investigators visited 63 licensed establishments across the …

If it is found that Café 34 in Matawan was substituting cheaper liquor than that they claimed they were serving, it wouldn't surprise me one bit. We had purchased dinner coupons through Deal Chicken for Café 34 and used them to eat there for our first (and what would be our last) time. When we gave our waitress the coupons, the owner refused to accept them. How misleading of Café 34! It is …   more ›

Customers React to $95M Lucky Lukoil Lotto News

The Kwik Farms convenience store in the Tinton Falls Lukoil sold a winning Mega Millions ticket.

Tom Schweers woke up thinking he struck it big--$95 million big. Every day, the 64-year-old West Long Branch man buys an instant ticket and occasionally springs for a Mega Millions ticket at the Kwik Farms in the Lukoil station on Shrewsbury Avenue on Tinton Falls. The store sold one of the two winning $95 million Mega Millions tickets in the country, the New Jersey Lottery announced Sunday morning. When Schweers heard his local lottery dealer was the winning ticket seller, he thought he could be holding the winning ticket. And then he realized he bought Powerball instead of Mega Millions. “Of course, I probably would have won the damn thing. When I heard the news, I said ‘You’ve got to be kidding me,’” Schweers said. Schweers stopped by …

What Should It Be?

What Should This Empty Building Become?

There are empty storefronts all around, what would you like to see come to Marlboro?

Editor's Note: This article was originally published in 2012. However, the building is still for sale. Ignore the zoning laws, the environmental restrictions, the possible traffic buildup: just play a fun game. What should be here? This building, on Rt. 79, was the site of the Coastal Learning Center, and is now owned by the Marlboro Township Board of Education. The building is across the street from Biker's Haven. What if you had the ability to bring a business to Marlboro and put it in this empty spot?

New Marlboro Fitness Business Changes Lives in 10 Weeks

Max Fitness, with a new location coming to Marlboro in June, has helped clients undergo dramatic weight loss without the use of gimmicks or crash dieting.

After a difficult pregnancy left his wife and newborn son in the hospital for over a year, martial arts instructor Bryan Klein soon saw his own health deteriorate. Driving from his home in Manalapan to a hospital in New York City each day began to wreak havoc on his diet and overall fitness level several years ago. "After the whole ordeal was over and we had returned to normal life, I had gained over 100 pounds," Klein said. "It became difficult to fulfill my job duties. I put up with being overweight for five years. One day I said enough of this, so I hired a personal trainer and nutritionist because I was out of control and just wasn't doing it on my own. "I started to lose weight, but I was spending $300 a week, which is just obscene, …
