For those whose children will be moving onto high school in September, the FRHSD (Marlboro High, Manalapan High, Colts Necks High, Freehold High, Freehold Boro and Howell High) no longer provides accident insurance to their students. If you play sports or are involved in clubs or extracurricular activities and you get hurt, the school does not protect you. In addition, there is a voluntary policy offered at the beginning of the school year which parents can purchase, and they have ELIMINATED coverage for athletes and students involved in extracurricular activities. Any other school who has removed accident insurance still offers the families a policy which they can purchase for under 100 dollars for the school year. This helps to cover co-pays, deductibles and remaining bills should your child get hurt at school! Please be aware, if your insurance does not cover these types of injuries, or you lose your insurance or have lost your insurance say if you are in between jobs, your kid is unprotected. It is irresponsible that the board of education would take such action especially towards the kids who choose to represent their schools.
