A Sandy fundraiser to benefit the volunteer Point Borough Fire Department and a Jersey Shore group giving out toys to children was held at the Idle Hour from 4 p.m. to close Saturday.
The Brue Crew, led by Point Borough resident John Brue, and Rhyme & Reason, a Dave Matthews tribute band, are among the bands that performed at Rock-N-Relief Presents "A Night for Point," at the Idle Hour, Route 88, Point Borough.
Mark Sroka, Co-Founder/Managing Partner of Rock-N-Relief, said he has notified Borough Fire Chief Daniel Mulligan that 80 percent of the proceeds from the event will go directly to the Borough Fire Department.
The fire department, along with Point Boro First Aid Squad, Borough Office of Emergency Management, police and public works, rescued people from flooded homes, and assisted the community in many ways during and after the storm.
Admission was $15 and a new toy or gift card.
The Rock-N-Relief Facebook page says: "There will be a $15 cover at the door and the first 100 people will receive a Rock-N-Relief bracelet that you can only get at the Point Event! We will also be collecting new toys and gift cards that will be delivered to Operation Jersey Shore Santa!
We kick off at 4pm on Saturday with a Happy Hour Dedication to John Lennon with a buffet and drink specials! There will be many special guests providing non-stop live music all night leading up to the headliner, Rhyme & Reason, at 10 pm.
It is through our desire to support the widespread and long term rebuilding efforts, that we are partnering with organizations that are doing great things for the entire Jersey Shore Community. It is our mission and responsibility to dedicate and focus our attention at each event, to the LOCAL HEROES who were there during the toughest times!
Saturday will be dedicated to the Point Borough Fire Department! Please come out and support the wonderful community of Point, our local heroes from Ladder Co. 2, and our friends at the Idle Hour!
Drink specials and buffet all night long. Special Guests include: The Pickles, The Brue Crew, Vyntage, Rome, and more. This is going to be a night to remember!"
