Manalapan Duo Create Online Base of Local Athletic Activities

Looking to play some sports? Log onto Tivity to find out who else wants to play and what local fields or courts are available.

Manalapan residents Jason Scherr and Matthew Sigman have created Tivity, a crowd-sourced knowledge base of local athletic activities that is organized and curated by the participants.

Tivity helps people discover local athletic activites, connects them with others, and helps locate local places that are available for play at any given time.

Once a member, each person can let the Tivity community know what phsyical activities they enjoy and which they are the most passionate about. Tivity also allows you to keep track of your athletic history.

"Whether you're a local, on vacation, or traveling for business, Tivity makes it easier than ever to find something active to do and somewhere to do it," Scherr said.

Scherr and Sigman came up with the idea for Tivity two summers ago wihle playing a pick-up basketball game at the Manalapan Recreation Center. They both realized that at certain days and times the courts are extremely crowded, while at other times the courts are empty.

"Sometimes there was even a 3-game to step onto a court," Scherr said. " But on other days of the week, especially the weekends, the courts were empty. Literally not a soul in sight."

Both Scherr and Sigman wanted to find a better way to manage finding, sharing, and organizing basketball pick-up games in Manalapan. First, they attempted to share the information on Facebook, through e-mails, and via mass text messages to friends. Unfortunately, this did not produce the results they were looking for.

"Plus, half the fun is beating people on the court who you've never met before," said Scherr.

With this, Tivity took shape. Now, if you are not sure what time to head to the Rec Center, want to play at a different time, or want to find a game to join - check Tivity.

Log into Tivity at www.tivity.us, then enter what you want to do and where you live and the information will be right at your fingertips.

Team Tivity was accpeted into the NYU-Poly Varick Street Incubator in September of 2011 when it first was born in Manalapan. It was also part of the selective StartFast Venture Accelerator this past summer in Syracuse, NY.

Tivity is currently in beta from and looking for user feedback. Check out Tivity at www.tivity.us or send an email to teamtivity@tivity.us.
