Marlboro Whole Foods Will Open in 2014, Rep Says

Construction hasn't yet started on the facility.

Those buildings you see at the corner of Route 520 and Route 9 South won't house Whole Foods. In fact, construction hasn't begun on Whole Foods yet.

Those buildings will house the almost-complete Walgreens and an array of retail stores. But Michael Sinatra, public affairs manager for Whole Foods, said construction for the market will begin soon but won't be completed until spring 2014.

"We’re incredibly excited to be joining the Marlboro community and look forward to opening our 2nd store in Monmouth County," Sinatra wrote in an email.

A groundbreaking ceremony on the property occurred with township officials and the property manager more than a year ago. Developer Robert Pagano announced then that the shopping center would be complete "this time next year," referring to summer 2013.

Roadwork surrounding what will be the new center is complete and included the widening by one lane of Route 520 from Route 9 South.

As we have followed the construction, Patch readers have been eagerly awaiting the opening, even posting on our new Boards with anticipation.

"We will be in the middle of the development and site construction will start soon," Sinatra wrote.
