Trick-or-Treating in Marlboro and Colts Neck Indefinitely Postponed

Both Mayors said activities will resume once residents have power and roads are safe.

Halloween may have to wait a few more days for kids in Marlboro and Colts Neck.

Both school districts are closed through Tuesday. Colts Neck Mayor Jarrett Engel and Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik both said trick-or-treating is postponed until further notice.

Right now, the priority for both townships is to get power fully restored. Many residents are without heat as of Monday morning, as temperatures drop and some enter into a full week without power.

Once Patch reader suggested the following, when trick-or-treating does finally happen:

Here's an idea for Halloween:

I speak for myself, but my kids don't need candy. Fill their bags yourselves with whatever candy you already bought.

Moms and Dads usually stand around carrying their kids overflowing bags or pillowcases of candy while they walk the streets. Yes, bring your children Trick 'o Treating! This year, bring an extra bag or two and instead of asking for candy, see if people have some important and needed items to donate!

If we each spend today or tomorrow morning picking up a few things to donate -- and some of us collect them as we Trick 'o Treat -- we will have made a big impact.

Also, you will have taught your children a life-long lesson.
