Marlboro Home Invasion Investigation Continues

Marlboro Police and the Monmouth County Prosecutors Office are investigating a home invasion which occurred Wednesday afternoon on Opatut Court in Morganville. 

Homeowner Elliott Kreppel told reporters he came home to walk his dog, and found his housekeeper tied up and his house a mess. The housekeeper told police she had been thrown against a wall, but no critical injuries were reported.

Hornik: State Has 'Gone Silent' On Marlboro State Hospital Deal

Despite recent news reports stating the Marlboro State Hospital site cleanup is on track, Mayor Jon Hornik said he hasn't heard as much as a whisper about the project since November.

Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno and Mayor Jon Hornik announced last November that the state would clean up the 411 acre site, including demolishing 600,000 square feet of buildings, at no expense to Marlboro taxpayers. .

But Hornik hasn't heard a word from the state since November.

Marlboro Continues To Contest State Taking COAH Funds

Despite an , Marlboro Township received a daunting letter this week from the state, informing officials that their Council On Affordable Housing trust fund will be emptied in August.

In June, Marlboro Township successfully fought an initial July deadline to spend its $13 million of affordable housing money, after a judge granted an injunction on Wednesday preventing the state from taking the trust.

But early this week, Mayor Jon Hornik received a letter stating the township would have to turn over $10.8 million of its money, despite the court injunction.

Former Brookdale President Pleads Guilty to Official Misconduct Charges

Former Brookdale Community College President Peter Burnham Tuesday, accused of abusing his power as head of the county college.

Burnham, 68 of Colts Neck, pleaded guilty before Judge Thomas F. Scully to two counts of official misconduct and one count of theft by deception. Prosecutors say Burnham used credit cards issued to him by Brookdale to purchase more than $10,000 worth of items.

Middlesex Water Rate Increases Approved, Marlboro Residents See Spike in Bills

Marlboro Township's  may have paid off.

The Board of Public Utilities approved a 12.7 percent increase for Middlesex Water customers, far below the 17.47 percent increase originally proposed by the company.

The private Middlesex Water Company supplies the Marlboro Township Municipal Utilities Authority, which in turn supplies Gordon's Corner Water.

Costco Approved For Expanded Fuel Service

Costco seems to have a good problem: they have too many fuel customers at their Morganville location.

The wholesale warehouse opened in 2011, and is now looking at the traffic pattern within its own parking lot and ways to serve more customers.

Representatives proposed adding two more fuel stations, a move the Marlboro Planning Board approved last week as a "good first step."
