Marlboro Democrats Sweep the Town Council Race

The Marlboro Democrats swept the competition.

The Marlboro Town Council will remain the same, with incumbents Jeff Cantor, Carol Mazzola and Scott Metzger winning the vote.

Cantor garnered a little over 18 percent of the vote, with Metzger and Mazzola around 17 percent.

Republican challengers Bob Knight, Craig Marshall and Marielaine LaRosa each receieved about 15 percent of the vote.

"I congratulate the incumbents. I would hope this is not the end," Marshall said, adding that he hopes there can be a meeting of the minds for the betterment of Marlboro.

Result numbers reported by the Monmouth County Clerk as of 9:15 p.m.:
Jeff Cantor: 18.48% with 4,741 votes
Carol Mazzola: 17.13% with
Scott Metzger: 17.61% with 4,517
Marielaina LaRosa: 15.56% with 3,992
Bob Knight:
15.55% with 3,989
Craig Marshall:
15.66% with 4,017

In 2011, Marshall ran for Mayor against current Mayor Jon Hornik and lost. At the time, his running mates were Chris Dean and Marianne Longobardi, who ran for Town Council.

"It was a nail biter for a while there, and I was concerned. Then they all came in, and I felt better," Cantor said at headquarters. "But it's because of all you that we won...we swept, it's a great feeling. I'm so excited that we are here to do four more years in Marlboro."

The night ended at Democratic HQ with the room singing Happy Birthday to Carol Mazzola, whose birthday lands on Election Day.

"Four more years, we will make you proud," Metzger said.
