Florida self-defense law known as Stand Your Ground, Allows people who fear great harm or death not to retreat, even if they can safely do so. If an attacker is retreating, people are still permitted to use deadly force.
This brings up the whole issue did George Zimmerman have the right to kill Travon Martin in self defense.  In my view-point George Zimmerman did not have the right to use his gun that night on Trayvon Martin.
Had Mr Zimmerman listened to to the 911 operator, not gone out on his own, he placed himself in harm's way unnecessary.   From the Courtroom trail it was shown that Trayvon Martain told a friend on the phone that he was being followed and was scared.  This may have resulted in Trayvon confronting Zimmerman thinking he was being stalked by a criminal.
Mr Zimmerman had his day in Court and the Jury believed his side of events that night in Florida
