103-Year-Old Colts Neck Woman and St. Mary's Parishionier Dies

Mary Spadea lived in Colts Neck for over 35 years.

Mary Spadea, who would have turned 104 next month, died Sunday, Oct. 13, 2013 at Bayshore Community Hospital, Holmdel Township. She lived in Colts Neck for over 35 years and was truly an amazing person. She was a fantastic cook, baker, seamstress, craft person, and made the best homemade candies. St. Mary's Church, the Colts Neck Seniors and the Holy Spirits were an important part of her life. Her simple lifestyle through the decades served her well.

She leaves behind her loving son and caregiver, George Spadea and her daughter and son-in-law, Norma and Manny Couvelha; her granddaughter, Erika Barbee and husband David, and her three great granddaughters, Gabrielle, Nicole, and Jordynn. She was very much loved by her family, her neighbors, and her friends.

The Funeral Liturgy will be celebrated at St. Mary's Church, Colts Neck on Friday at 9 a.m. followed by interment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Memorial donations to St. Mary's Social Concerns, 1 Phalanx Road, Colts Neck, NJ 07722 would be appreciated. Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold is in charge of arrangements.
