Former Delicious Orchards Employee and Freehold Boro Police Officer Dies at 64

Terry Guy served for 14 years and worked at Delicious Orchards.

Terry Robert Guy, age 64, went home to be with the Lord on November 17, 2013.  He passed away peacefully at home in Pequea, PA, with his family at his side.   He was the husband of Nancy Carroll Guy, his high school sweetheart, with whom he recently celebrated 46 years of marriage.

Terry was born on November 21st, 1948 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.  He was the son of Robert and Elizabeth Guy.   He graduated from Freehold Borough High School in 1966, and took numerous courses in criminology at Monmouth College.

He worked at Delicious Orchards in Colts Neck, NJ from 1966 to 1974.  He served on the Freehold Borough Police Department from 1974 to 1988, at which time he retired having achieved the rank of Sergeant.  He later worked at CentraState Medical Center in the security department and as an aide in Psychiatric Services.

Terry and Nancy moved to Pequea, Pa in 1998, where he enjoyed chopping firewood, working in his garden, landscaping, and spending time in his tree stand watching for deer.  Terry worked for several years in the security department at the Presbyterian Home in Quarryville, PA.

In recent years, Terry enjoyed his retirement by volunteering at the Water Street Rescue Mission in Lancaster, PA.   Several days a week he visited various grocery and food distributors collecting donations to feed the people in the Mission programs and those in need throughout the community.   Mr. Guy was most proud to be a mentor for several men in the Mission’s rehabilitation program.  He also enjoyed coaching and playing on their softball team.

Terry was preceded in death by his son Terry, Jr. in 1995.  He is survived by his wife Nancy, a daughter Cynthia Woodworth and her husband, Scott, Conestoga, Pa.; and a son Michael and his wife Jeni Brubaker, who serve as missionaries in Papua, New Guinea.   Mr. Guy is also survived by his grandchildren, Sierra, Jessie, Talia, Dustin, Nicholas, Seth and Alexandria Woodworth, and Robert Guy.  Michael and Jeni are expecting their 2nd child in February, 2014.

Terry is also survived by his sister, Judith and brother, Glenn,  (Jill), Freehold, and many nieces and nephews. 

A memorial service and viewing will be held at Grace Baptist Church of Millersville, in Millersville, PA at 7pm on Thursday the 21st.   Family and friends may also pay their respects at Higgins Memorial Home, Freehold on Friday, November 22nd from 3:00 to 5:00 pm and 7:00 to 9:00 pm.  Funeral services will be held at the Higgins Memorial Home on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. followed by interment at Maplewood Cemetery, Freehold.   In lieu of flowers, donations to the Freehold First Aid and Emergency Squad, 18 Spring Street, Freehold, NJ 07728 would be appreciated.
