A 16-year-old Colts Neck boy has been charged with attempted murder and theft after allegedly entering a Bray Street home on July 7, stabbing the homeowner, and taking off with her car.

The homeowner was initially listed in critical condition, but has since recovered.
The incident happened on Bray Street, between Route 34 and Holmdel Road, at 12:30 a.m. The 41-year-old woman's vehicle was stolen after she was injured in her own home by an alleged hitchhiker coming from Route 34.

According to an alert sent by Colts Neck Police to residents in July, "At this time it appears a person fitting the description of hitchhiker may have been scared by the police presence and was looking to exit the area for unknown reason. After a brief conversation he pushed into residence, stabbed victim, grabbed her car keys near the door and exited Colts Neck in her vehicle."

The vehicle was later recovered in Aberdeen.

The boy, whose name has not been released due to his age, is currently in the Middlesex County Youth Detention Center in North Brunswick.

The boy's official charges are attempted murder, third degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, fourth degree unlawful possession of a weapon and first degree carjacking.

"We are very proud of our Police Department and a great investigative job, after 3½ months to be able to bring closure of this horrific incident within this community," a news release from the Colts Neck Police Department said.
