A five-car accident which occurred around 8:40 a.m. on Thursday shut down southbound lanes on Rt. 79 between the Rt. 18 ramp and CVS.
At least one driver was self-extricated from a vehicle. Two involved were transported to Jersey Shore Medical, according to Captain Steve Mennona.
Councilman Lt. Col. Jeff Cantor was on the scene with first aid, and said one man had a shard of glass in his eye on the scene.
Police blocked Rt. 79 southbound until 9:50 a.m., when the accident cleanup was moved to the shoulder of the road.
