Colts Neck Stabbing Arrest Unclear

Information regarding a possible arrest in the Bray Street stabbing case was released then retracted.

A version of this article went up before Patch received the Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office retraction.

The Monmouth County Prosecutor's office announced an arrest was made in the Colts Neck stabbing case, but then retracted the information on Wednesday.

The release said a 16-year-old male had been charged with attempted murder in connection with a July 7 stabbing on Bray Street, which left a homeowner in critical condition for several days. It is unclear now whether an arrest has been made at all.

Charlie Webster, Monmouth County Prosecutor's Office public information officer, said the information initially sent to reporters was to be retracted, and information regarding the case will be released in the near future.

The incident happened on Bray Street, between Route 34 and Holmdel Road, at 12:30 a.m. The 41-year-old woman's vehicle was stolen after she was injured in her own home by an alleged hitchhiker coming from Route 34. The injured homeowner was initially listed in critical condition, but has since recovered.

According to an alert sent by Colts Neck Police to residents in July, "At this time it appears a person fitting the description of hitchhiker may have been scared by the police presence and was looking to exit the area for unknown reason. After a brief conversation he pushed into residence, stabbed victim, grabbed her car keys near the door and exited Colts Neck in her vehicle."

The vehicle was later recovered in Aberdeen.
