Former Marlboro Police Chief Still Hasn't Seen Courtroom

Former Marlboro Police Chief Robert Holmes was indicted in 2009 on counts of aggravated sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child, but has yet to see the inside of a Monmouth County courtroom for trial.

According to 2009 News Transcript articles, Holmes was indicted on seven counts of aggravated sexual assault on July 8, 2009.

"The indictment also charges Holmes with two counts of second degree sexual assault and one count of second degree endangering the welfare of a child, as well as one count each of third degree aggravated criminal sexual contact and fourth degree criminal sexual contact," according to the News Transcript.

Today, the Monmouth County Prosecutor's is labeling the case unresolved. A county prosecutor representative said, "There is nothing new to report."

The 2009 indictment alleges the events in question occurred from 2005 to 2007, with one girl who was 12 to 14 years of age over that period of time. A county investigation found Holmes allegedly engaged in sexual acts with the minor.

Holmes was Marlboro's Police Chief from 1998 to Jan. 1, 2009, when he retired. He is currently a member of , collecting $106,010 per year. It is unclear whether or not Holmes will lose his pension if found guilty, or if he is currently collecting his pension after being indicted.

Holmes also serves as a Marlboro Fire Commissioner in the township, serving as Chairman as of March 2012, according to commissioner meeting minutes.
