Gas Line Break at Marlboro Hospital Property Temporarily Shuts Down Roadways

Route 520 and Conover Road are now open in Marlboro.

A backhoe working on the Marlboro Psychiatric Hospital property in Marlboro struck a major gas line late Monday morning, causing emergency officials to close down a portion of Route 520 and Conover Road.

Fire officials said the nearby New Hope Institute was not evacuated. New Jersey Natural Gas was on the scene by noon with a clamp on the main line, and the roadways were then reopened.

Officials on scene were not aware of the reason for construction on the property. In 2011, state government announced its plans to clean up the contaminated site, but local officials have yet to receive a timeline or plan.
