Hornik Declares Local State of Emergency in Marlboro

The local Office of Emergency Management is in place.

Mayor Jon Hornik announced early Sunday afternoon that Marlboro Township is in a local state of emergency, due to the impending Hurricane Sandy.

The declaration, he said, allows the local Office of Emergency Management to take charge and local public works trucks, police fire and first aid to "do what is needed" throughout the hurricane.

The OEM and local officials have the authority to restrict driving, impose curfews and close township roads if necessary.

JCP&L trucks were seen throughout Marlboro on Friday, trimming trees along roads near circuit stations. Hornik said he has been in contact with the company for days, nailing down a plan.

In anticipation of the outages, Marlboro Township is planning to open several locations for residents to charge electronic devices such as phones and computers.
