Jersey City Man Charged with Attempting to Cash Stolen Checks from Colts Neck

Lewis Wright allegedly stole checks from a Colts Neck resident and attempted to cash them in Jersey City.

Lewis Wright, 24 of Jersey City, was arrested and charged with theft after allegedly stealing and attempting to use a checkbook belonging to a Colts Neck resident.

County arrest reports indicate Wright allegedly stole a checkbook of 30 checks and deposit slips, and attempted to forge a signature to use the checks in his hometown by writing a $1,500 check to himself and signing the victim's name in December.

The report stated Wright allegedly stole the checkbook from the victim's home, but does not indicate if the victim knew Wright.

Wright is being held in Monmouth County Jail on $16,000 bail with a ten percent option.
