Marlboro Police Pass the Torch for Special Olympics

Marlboro Police ran up Route 9 from Freehold to Marlboro.

Officers ran from the Freehold Shoprite to the , along with members of the Manalapan Police Department. Runners were followed by a complete motorcade, as they followed a pace car and caused quite a traffic jam.

The statewide run kicks off the weekend of Special Olympics games, held at The College of New Jersey in Ewing. Over 3,000 law enforcement officers will run throughout New Jersey, to raise money for special needs children to attend the games free of charge.

Police Captain Steve Mennona said that to raise money for the kids, officers have been approaching local businesses looking for sponsors.

Funds raised will pay for more than 22,000 children to compete in the New Jersey Special Olympics games, and conduct programs year-round, free of charge.
