Police say the 21-year old man from Morganville tried to elude Holmdel Police on Route 34 Monday night.
A Morganville man who mistakenly thought he was driving with a suspended license led a Holmdel Police officer on a chase through Holmdel and Marlboro last night.
It ended when the driver hit a pole.
Marc Z. Wildman of Doe Terrace in Morganville marked his 21st birthday at the Monmouth County Correctional Facility, where he was held on $20,000 bail, with no ten percent option.

According to Holmdel Police Lt. Michael Smith, Ptl. Jonathan Martin tried to stop Wildman driving 76 mph in a 50 mph zone of Highway 34, at Deer Path, around 10:09 p.m Monday night.
When the officer tried to stop the car, the driver in the 2007 Honda accelerated and made a right turn onto Schanck Road and continued until it struck a pole at the intersection with Pleasant Valley Road in Marlboro.

"He thought his license was suspended," said Lt. Smith, when asked what motivated the driver to flee.
At an initial appearance before a judge today, he was charged with driving "in excess of 85 mph" during the pursuit.
Wildman was given summonses for eluding a police officer, speeding, reckless driving, improper passing on the shoulder and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle.
