Threat Protocol Elevated at Marlboro Memorial in Wake of Boston Tragedy

In the wake of two explosions at yesterday's Boston Marathon, Marlboro Police elevated protocol when a suspicious note was found in a middle school.

Marlboro Police evacuated Marlboro Memorial Middle School on Tuesday after a "suspicious note" was found in the school.

Police Chief Bruce Hall said normal protocol was followed, including call in K9 units and detectives to sweep the school.

"[The Boston Marathon] probably heightened it, but we were pretty sure from the onset that there was nothing because school facilities are locked and no one can come in without being seen."

As of 1:59 p.m., police reported all students have been returned to Memorial and the schedule will resume as normal.

Authorities have not released what the note said or where it was located. Hall said this type of thing happens often as the weather gets warmer.

"We get this every year at this time of the year, we'll get it probably a couple more times between the high school and the middle schools," Hall said.

Detectives in the Marlboro Police Department are heading the ongoing investigation. Hall said the department will review video surveillance from the school and the note will be treated as a "terroristic threat."

Marlboro Township was aided by Bayshore departments, including Aberdeen, Matawan and Holmdel as fire and police officials were placed on standby while the scene was cleared.

After school activities will resume as normal.

Elsewhere in New Jersey, Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School in Union County was also evacuated due to a threat which was found unsubstantiated. Woodbridge and Edison High Schools were also evacuated due to threats.

In New York, a Massapequa middle school was also evacuated after the office received a threatening message.
