Leaf and Brush Pickup Update from Marlboro DPW

The leaf removal pickup program has been pushed back as the township continues to deal with Sandy cleanup.

A letter from Bob DiMarco, Superintendent of the Marlboro Department of Public Works:

The Department of Public Works continues to remove leaves and other debris from municipal roadways following Hurricane Sandy and the November 2012 snow storm. As a result of this monumental brush clean up effort, the leaf removal program has been pushed back and out of necessity is being conducted during cold winter months.

To give a sense of proportion, we will soon exceed 170,000 cubic yards of collected brush; equivalent to a football field stacked as high as an 8 story building.

It is a significant challenge to remove leaves which are now wet and frozen and in some cases covered with newly deposited storm debris. While industrial leaf vacuums are effective in removing leaves during the October and November months, they are of little use in January and February.

Please know that we are employing construction equipment and all available Township resources including outside contractors to remove leaves and the remaining storm debris. It is expected that this effort will be completed during the month of March, depending upon winter weather conditions.

On behalf of the Department of Public Works and the Township, I want to take this opportunity to thank you for your patience during this time. If you have any questions, please contact the Department at 732 536-0188.
