Marlboro awarded Green Acre funding

The township received federal funding for open space preservation.

Marlboro Township was awarded a $416,442 grant through Green Acres funding for open space preservation.

“With this new grant award, the State has once again recognized that Marlboro is serious about preserving open space,” said Mayor Jon Hornik in a news release.  “These funds will enable us to preserve more open space for the future of Marlboro.”

The grant will be used by the Open Space Committee, to continue buying open land and preserving the farm feel of the township.

The township has maintained a one penny open space tax, which allowed it to file for the grant through the state. The township now has $1,457,093 to preserve land.

“Our Open Space Committee has been invaluable in helping identify opportunities for the preservation of open space”, said Council President Randi Marder in the news release. “As Council liaison to the Committee, we are fortunate to have such an active and passionate group of resident volunteers committed to this important cause.”
