Marlboro, Colts Neck Lock in Clean Community Grants

Gov. Chris Christie announced nearly $16 million to fund cleanup efforts around the state.

Marlboro and Colts Neck are being rewarded for being clean communities with state grants that will fund the continued .

Gov. Chris Christie announced nearly $16 million to find cleanup efforts around the state, with Marlboro receiving $68,878.85 and Colts Neck receiving $27,763.32.

The funding, intended for litter abatement programs, was furnished by the State Department of Environmental Protection. The New Jersey Clean Communities Council endeavors to change attitudes responsible for littering and the irresponsible handling of solid waste, according to a release.

Each township will have to report to the Clean Communities Council on a regular basis, to measure the standards set by the grant program.

"Grants like these help reduce the fiscal burden on local leaders as they search for new and innovative ways to cut costs and increase revenues without raising taxes," Senator Jennifer Beck, Assemblywoman Mary Pat Angelini and Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande (R-11) said.
