Sandy Cleanup Will Cost Colts Neck $2.5 Million

After months of debris cleanup from October's Hurricane Sandy, Colts Neck is left holding the bill.

Business Administrator Bob Bowden reported the township spend $2.2 million cleaning up the township. According to The News Transcript, $1.3 million was spend on physical removal and $700,000 on grinding and chipping.

“We did what we had to do to get the town clean for you. It came at a pretty hefty price,” Bowden said, according to The News Transcript.

The township borrowed a portion of the cleanup money. Any FEMA reimbursement will pay down the loans. Bowden said he expects a 75 percent reimbursement.

This week, it was announced that Marlboro Township will receive a $1.6 million reimbursement for its $2.2 million Sandy bill.

Brush will not be collected again in Colts Neck until the spring.
