Unofficial Results Show Low Voter Turnout in Both Marlboro and Colts Neck

The distress of Hurricane Sandy may have prevented voters from flocking to the polls in Marlboro and Colts Neck.

With both towns continuing to experience power outages in the aftermath of the storm, voter turnout in a presidential election year was low according to unofficial results.

Results as of Wednesday afternoon do not include all absentee ballots and electronic voting numbers, but both townships had small turnout.

But a low turnout did not result in any surprised for either towns election. Both Marlboro and Colts Neck have historically voted straight Republican.

In Marlboro, the one exception was Democratic incumbent Congressman Frank Pallone. According to unofficial results, Pallone snuck by a margin of less than 100 votes.

In Colts Neck, Republicans seemed to have won by a landslide in all categories. The largest margin was in the County Clerk category, where incumbent Claire French won over Democratic challenger Michael Steinhorn in a 3,834 to 976 victory.

Official results, including absentee ballots and electronic voting counts, may not be in until Friday in Monmouth County.
