Marlboro Girls Win Cougar Classic

It was a pretty good start to the basketball seasons for the Marlboro High School girls and boys teams.

The girls squad opened the season by winning the Cougar Classic in Cranford. The team defeated Cranford by a convincing 49 to 27 in the finals. The team made it to the finals after a win over West Orange on Friday, according to nj.com.

According to nj.com, Senior forward Haley Unger recorded 11 points and seven rebounds and was named tournament MVP. Sophomore Tatum Evans led the team in scoring with 14 points. Junior Nicole Shatsky ran point for Marlboro, scored 13 and played excellent defense.

The boys took third in the same tournament after scoring a 71-65 victory over Dickinson. The team lost in the first round, dropping a one point decision to eventual champion, Cranford, according to nj.com.
