Olympic Hopeful, Colts Neck Native to Test Mettle in Road Race

Ashley Higginson is part of the United States national team and will compete in World Championships in Beijing next year.

A lot of runners Thursday night may be able to say in 2016 they competed with an Olympian.

Ashley Higginson will take part in the Verizon Corporate Challenge 5KThursday night, a race that will weave its way through a number of Morristown streets between 7 and 10 p.m.

But while Higginson starts the race as a member of the pack, she’s been leading the group for quite some time.

The Riker Danzig summer associate and Princeton graduate about to start her third year of law school at Rutgers is now competing on a national level. Higginson came in second place at the 3,000-meter Steeplechase National Championship Race in Sacramento on June 28, which secured her spot on the United States world championship team.

Higginson, a Colts Neck native, also ran in Moscow, narrowly missing the final, and is now training to compete on the national team in Beijing with a year to prepare.

Higginson also ran on July 10 in the Lawyers for Kids 5K in Morris Township, crossing the finish line with a time of 18:19 – good enough for best among female runners.
