Thousands Attend Marlboro's Independence Day Celebration

The event was dubbed the "unofficial start of summer in Marlboro Township"

Nearly 5,000 people piled into the Marlboro Recreation Center Amphitheater with blankets and chairs in hand to listen to live music and watch fireworks light up the night sky on Sunday, July 8.

The Independence Day celebration and unofficial start of summer in Marlboro Township featured Bruce Springsteen tribute band, The B-Street Band, preforming classic songs such as “Dancing in the Dark” and “The Rising.”

Also at the event was the Marlboro-Nanto Youth Exchange Program, an organization designed for Marlboro students to travel to Japan and for Japanese students to travel to Marlboro. Members of the program were selling water to thirsty event-goers to raise money for the exchange.

“A lot of planning goes in," Mayor Jon Hornik said about the celebration. "It’s all paid for by Investors Bank, whose our corporate sponsor so it’s not costing the tax payers anything and it is a feel good community style event with great music and a great firework show.”

Marlboro Council President, Jeff Cantor also commented saying, “Just happy to be here tonight, great turnout. We have thousands and thousands of people here, and it’s nice that people come out.”

With everything that this town takes, its good to see something given back to the residents (even if its paid by someone else).
