Seeing Eye Dogs Come to Colts Neck Library

Residents learned about how the dogs are trained.

Adults and children alike learned all about seeing eye dogs on Wednesday afternoon, when members of Monmouth County Seeing Eye Puppy Raisers came to the y for an interactive presentation on how their dogs are trained. The session took place on the grassy area just outside the library, and local residents sat on blankets and towels to watch the dogs and their trainers go to work.

About 22 people turned up to watch the presentation, according to children's librarian Renee Fertig. There were also five therapy dogs, three German shepherds and two black labrador retrievers, there to participate with their handlers.

Monmouth County Seeing Eye Puppy Raisers is a volunteer organization. The group will next be seen tomorrow at Seeing Eye Day in Morristown, and then later at the Monmouth County Fair on July 28.
