Paul worked for 24 years in the packing facilities at Delicious Orchards.
Paul H. Baumgaertner, 49, of Colts Neck, died on Saturday, April 27, 2013, at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, Neptune. Born in Red Bank he was a lifelong resident of Colts Neck. Paul worked for 24 years in the packing facilities at Delicious Orchards. He was a member of the Grace Lutheran Church, Freehold and the 4-H Club of Monmouth County. He was an avid New York Yankees and Dallas Cowboys fan. Paul was predeceased by his father, Lou in 2007 and his brother Karl. He is survived by his mother, Elizabeth Baumgaertner; his sister, Donna; and two aunts, Barbara and Alma. A funeral service was held on Wednesday, May 1, at Grace Lutheran Church, Freehold. Monmouth County freeholders honored the family-owned business for 100 years of service.
For 100 years, Delicious Orchards in Colts Neck has been an institution in Monmouth County. This week, the Monmouth County Freeholders and local officials came together to celebrate the milestone. “It is a privilege to be in such a wonderful establishment that has gone statewide, yet stayed truly Monmouth County,” Freeholder Director John P. Curley said in a news release. Last year, Delicious Orchards sold 1.2 million doughnuts and more than 200,000 pies, all made from scratch, staying as true to the original recipe as possible. To keep pace with demand, they bought an apple-peeling machine that peels a bushel of apples per minute, according to owner Bill McDonald. The community staple celebrated its birthday Sept. 17-18 with an Apple Festival.
It could be argued that autumn is one of the best seasons of the year, complete with seasonal decorations, Halloween, and – of course – autumn festivals. Delicious Orchards of Colts Neck knows this, which is why they opened their doors to the public on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17 and Sept. 18 for their very own Apple Festival. In celebration of their 100 years in the community, the festival featured a showing of classic cars, clowns, games and live music.
