Last Chance: Marlboro 2nd Quarter Taxes Due

Second quarter taxes are May 10 in Marlboro, extended Tax Collector hours begin May 1.

A message from Marlboro Township: Second quarter taxes must be received no later than May 10. For your convenience, the Tax Collector's Office will have extended hours as follows: Payments can also be made the following ways: Mail a check using your return payment stub to the Township of Marlboro Tax Collector - 1979 Township Drive, Marlboro, NJ 07746 Payments can be made online through a third party payment processing company, using an electronic check or credit card. There will be a link at www.marlboro-nj.gov saying "Tax Collector is now Collecting Payments Online". Click on it, you will need your tax account number and the amount of your quarterly tax. Last Chance: 15th Annual Tour of Colts Neck Classic Bicycle Race

Registration ends today, May 4.

Today is the last chance to register for the Fifteenth Annual Tour of Colts Neck Classic Bicycle Race, which will take place this Sunday. Cyclists can register at bikereg.com. Entry is free for all Colts Neck residents. Registration for non-Colts Neck residents costs $20-$30, depending on the race. This year's race continues the more convenient registration, parking, and spectator area adjacent to the start and finish lines introduced last year. The event begins at 8 a.m. at Thompson Park in Lincroft. See the attached flyer for details about specific races and start times.

Last Chance: Register for Stomp the Monster

The 5k race will run through Marlboro this Sunday.

Today is the last chance to register for the Stomp the Monster 5k race this weekend. Online and mail-in registration must be completed by April 20. More information about registration and how to donate can be found at http://stompthemonster.org. Race Features: Stomp the Monster was founded by Marlboro resident Seth Grumet, who after being diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in 2010, wanted to find a way to offer a support system for those in need. Grumet's then 10-year old daughter told him the cancer was a monster under the floorboards that needed to be stomped out. Last Chance: Register to Walk a Mile for a Special Child

The fourth annual Walk4Friends, which raises funds for children with special needs, will take place on April 29. Approximately 1,500 people will come out to walk the mile and this year the event will take place at Vonage Campus, 23 Main Street in Holmdel at 1 p.m. Sponsored by the Friendship Circle of Central New Jersey, this event aims to raise close to $150,000 for special needs youth. The Friendship Circle of Central New Jersey provides innovative programs for more than 100 teenagers and children with special needs, as well as for their families.  All walkers must register by April 17 to receive a Walk4Friends T-shirt; registration is free. Taxpayers have until Tuesday, April 17 to file their 2011 tax returns and pay any tax due because April 15 falls on a Sunday, and Emancipation Day, a holiday observed in the District of Columbia, falls this year on Monday, April 16. Last Chance: Free Rabies Clinic for All NJ Cats and Dogs

There will be a free, yes FREE, rabies clinic Saturday, April 14 from 10-11 a.m. at 49 West Main St. behind the firehouse. “The Freehold Borough Board of Health offers free rabies shots twice a year, Spring & Fall,” explained Samantha Daesener, secretary for the Board of Health.  And this great offer is not just for Freehold residents, but is open to anyone who has a pet who is due for their shot. “Where you live does not matter.  Everyone is welcome!” said Daesener. Last Chance: Colts Neck Leaf Collection

Leaves will only be collected in April throughout the township.

During April, leaves will be collected in Colts Neck for the last time until the fall of 2012. Tree branches, limbs and trunks cannot exceed 4 inches in diameter if left on the curb. Officials are asking that residents cut back any limbs or leaves that extend beyond the curb line. Any vegetation within the township right of way that is not in compliance with State law and local ordinance, may be cut back by the Public Works Department and the property owner will be billed accordingly. Brush collection will continue, beginning the first full week of every month, until June 29. Last Chance: Property Tax Appeals Deadline

Residents can file online through the county.

April 1 is the last day to file an appeal for property taxes through the county. Residents can now apply online through the appeal filing system at https://appeals.co.monmouth.nj.us . Attached is a final notice from the Colts Neck Tax Assessor. If you choose to use the on-line system, you must create a user name and password. Follow the prompts to file the property tax appeal. Once submitted, all parties electronically receive their copies.

The Sciensational workshop for kindergarten to 6th grade students will run from April 3 to April 5. Grow and take home a crystal tree. Make an energy bead bracelet and watch as those amazing beads turn from white to a rainbow of colors before your eyes. Build a working electric motor. Make your own Sharpie pen T-shirt and learn some cool chemistry (student supplies a 100% cotton t-shirt). Make your own bubbling blobs and explore the properties of a density tube.
