The state Department of Transportation is set to begin a $37.5 million repaving project on about 17 miles of the state highway from Manalapan to Woodbridge, according to Timothy Greely, DOT spokesman.

Preliminary work may begin as early as this weekend, Greeley said. The estimated end date is Fall, 2014.

The  project will repave Route 9 in both directions from mile post 116.75 to 130.93 and from mile post 132.72 to 135.65, including bridge deck replacement on the Tricetown and Throckmorton bridges, Greeley said.

Much of the work – a contract was awarded to Intercounty Paving Associates, of Hackettstown -- will be done at night, and mainline Route 9 will be open at all times, according to the contract.
