Marlboro to Purchase Penska Farms as Open Space

The farm is located on Harbor Road, where the township has previously preserved Peppadew Farm.

The Marlboro Town Council voted last week to move forward with environmental investigations on Penska Farm, another step toward purchasing the property for open space.

"We will continue to take land offline from developers," Mayor Jon Hornik said.

A council resolution authorized site remediation and investigation, for which the owner of the property has agreed to pay half the cost.

Last year, the Open Space Committee inspected the farm and determined it would be "suitable for a nature preserve," according to The News Transcript.

The farm is located on Harbor Road, where the township has previously preserved Peppadew Farm.

The township will use Green Acres funding to eventually buy Penska. CME Associates of Howell has been hired for the remedial investigation. According to a township resolution, the firm will be paid no more than $43,000.
