Is Marlboro the New Gay Destination?

The Asbury Pulp decided Marlboro Township should be considered the newest gay destination, after Bella Vista Country Club offered to open its doors to same-sex weddings.

In a surprising ranking by the Human Rights Campaign Municipal Equality Index, Asbury Park fell low on the list of New Jersey municipalities in support for the LGBT community. It fell second to last, only ahead of Trenton.

The Asbury Pulp, an editorial publication with a sense of humor, decided Marlboro Township should be considered the newest gay destination, after Bella Vista Country Club offered to open its doors to same-sex weddings.

While the MEI ranking deals with support, such as employment, for the LGBT that lives in each city; and Marlboro Township wasn't even evaluated; the Asbury Pulp said the "swanky" business supporting the cause was something their editorial staff was digging.

"And lest you think Bella Vista was being opportunistic or simply jumping on the same-sex bandwagon, we felt them out – figuratively – and found out that they have indeed always supported the cause and welcomed the great day when marriage equality came to…Marlboro!" The Asbury Pulp reported.

After same-sex marriage became legal in New Jersey in October, Marlboro Mayor Jon Hornik said he would certainly officiate a gay wedding if asked.

"It is the law of the land and I would officiate it without a problem. They are entitled to be married, and as a civil servant if I was requested, I would do my best to be there."
